Creates a new sound
Opens an existing sound
Opens a recently used sound. A list of recently opened sounds are displayed in a sub-menu. Click one of these to open it.
Saves the current sound
Saves the current sound under a different name
Closes the current window. If this is the last window, soniK will exit.
Quits soniK
Revert the last action. Up to 20 actions can be undone
Redo the last action that was undone
Remove the current selection from the sound and place it on the clipboard.
Copy the current selection to the clipboard.
Paste the clipboard contents at the current cursor position. If there is an active selection, it will be replaced.
Delete the current selection
Crop the sound to the current selection.
Select the entire sound.
Clear the current selection.
Increase the zoom level.
Decrease the zoom level.
Change the format times are displayed in. The following formats are available:
Samples
Time
Milliseconds
CDDA Frames (75 frames/second)
PAL Frames (25 frames/second)
NTSC Frames (29.97 frames/second)
Change the format scale labels are displayed in. The following formats are available:
Normalised (-1.0 to 1.0)
Real (-128 to 127 for 8-bit files, -32768 to 32768 for 16-bit files and -2^24 to 2^24-1 for 32-bit files)
dB
Change the way sounds are displayed. The following displays are available by default:
Normal: Signal value / Time
Spectral: Frequency response / Time
Plugins that change the format of the sound will appear in this menu. The default soniK installation includes:
Change the format of the current sound. Opens a dialog box that allows you to change the number of channels, sample rate and resolution (bits per sample) of the current sound.
Convert the current sound from Stereo to Mono. Opens a dialog box that allows you to select which channel to keep or whether to mix the channels together.
Convert the current sound from Mono to Stereo. Opens a dialog box that allows you to select how to fill the new channel.
Add channels to the sound. Opens a dialog box that allows you to select how many channels to add and which channel to add the after.
Remove channels from the sound. Opens a dialog box that allows you to select how many channels to remove and which channel to start removing from.
Plugins that change the content of the sound will appear in this menu. The default soniK installation includes:
Increase or decrease the volume of the sound.
Increase the volume of the sound as time increases.
Decrease the volume of the sound as time increases.
Reverse the sound.
Plugins that create new sounds will appear in this menu. The default soniK installation includes:
Generate a period of silence.
Generate a simple waveform (sine, square or saw).
Move audio playback position to start of sound or selection.
Move audio playback position backward.
Move audio playback position forward.
Move audio playback position to end of sound or selection.
Start audio playback.
Start looped audio playback. Playback will return to the start of the sound or selection when the end is reached.
Pause or resume audio playback.
Stop audio playback.
Record new sounds. A dialog box will be opened to control the recording.
Show or hide the main toolbar.
Show or hide the status bar.
Change the keys to press to perform actions in soniK.
Configure the icons shown in the toolbars.
Change the keys to press to perform actions in soniK.
Configure the behaviour of soniK.
Invokes the KDE Help system starting at the soniK help pages. (this document).
Changes the mouse cursor to a combination arrow and question mark. Clicking on items within soniK will open a help window (if one exists for the particular item) explaining the item's function.
Opens the Bug report dialog where you can report a bug or request a “wishlist” feature.
This will display version and author information.
This displays the KDE version and other basic information.
In addition to those associated with menu items, the following keys can also be used:
Move the cursor left.
Move the cursor right.
Move the cursor left by 10x Left.
Move the cursor right by 10x Right.
Move the cursor to the start of the sound.
Move the cursor to the end of the sound.
Move the selection edge left.
Move the selection edge right.
Move the selection edge left by 10x Shift+Left.
Move the selection edge right by 10x Shift+Right.
Move the selection edge to the start of the sound.
Move the selection edge to the end of the sound.
Scroll the display to the left.
Scroll the display to the right.
Scroll the display to the left by 10x Ctrl+Left.
Scroll the display to the right by 10x Ctrl+Right.
Scroll the display to the start of the sound.
Scroll the display to the end of the sound.
The following mouse actions can be used:
Place the cursor at the current mouse position.
Select the region of the sound between the point where the left button was pressed and the point where it was released. Can also be used to adjust the selection edges.
Move the selection, keeping its length the same.
Zoom in.
Zoom out.
Scroll left.
Scroll right.
